Indianapolis has named Indy nonprofit Flanner House as the newest Bridges to Career Opportunities site. The BCO designation will help Flanner House to provide job training and career opportunities to chronically unemployed and underemployed adults.
LISC Indianapolis asked area organizations with workforce initiatives to submit a proposal for review by a committee to determine which would become the fifth site in Indy.
“This opportunity will enable us to provide more opportunities for clients to increase their earning potential and raise the overall quality of life for their families,” said Brandon Cosby, executive director of Flanner House.
There are now five BCO sites in Indianapolis: Edna Martin Christian Center, John H. Boner Neighborhood Center, Southeast Community Services, Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center and Flanner House. LISC says funding for the BCO effort is made possible by a $6.5 million grant from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.
“The expansion of the Bridges to Career Opportunity network through Lilly Endowment funding will empower LISC and its partners to further the impact of this important initiative, and help participants make progress toward lasting economic self-sufficiency,” said David Hampton, executive director of LISC Indianapolis. “By blending training with financial coaching, program participants can take the reins of their economic and professional lives.”
