As part of the agreement, the authority says OmniTRAX will help attract new companies to the business park.
OmniTRAX operates more than 20 rail systems across North America. The RRDA says the agreement will allow OmniTRAX to connect existing customers and new prospects with a centralized hub serving numerous markets.
The rail system at River Ridge connects directly with CSX Railroad. Farrukh Bezar, senior vice president of marketing for CSX, says the company and OmniTRAX have a history of rail carload growth, and the partnership will benefit the communities surrounding River Ridge by attracting new, high-paying jobs.
“OmniTRAX is a well-respected railroad operator and transportation company that will be a great partner as we continue to take River Ridge to the next level,” River Ridge Executive Director Jerry Acy said in a news release. “River Ridge and the entire region will benefit from its depth of resources, strong rail and logistics expertise, and national economic development network. This new partnership will open up the Commerce Center for new and expanded development and bring new jobs to our community.”
The River Ridge Commerce Center is currently home to more than 60 companies with more than 10,500 workers. The RRDA says more than 4,000 acres of land are still available for development.
Earlier this week, River Ridge announced the beginning of negotiations for the sale of nearly 75 acres of land to an unidentified industrial developer.
