Officials from The Junction will Tuesday host a grand opening at Planet Fitness, the first tenant in the renovated space, and are detailing changes to plans for a hotel on the property.
The fitness center opened on March 1 inside the old Sears store.
“We’re really excited about celebrating this opening with the people of Logansport,” said Alex Baker, franchise owner. “We weren’t sure what to expect opening in the midst of a pandemic, but the city has really embraced us. We feel their positive energy.”
The Junction is being developed by Chicago-based Park Development LLC, which plans to develop a 144,000-square-foot open-air retail center. The developer says it has already signed Dunham Sports and Dollar Tree to the project.
Meanwhile, the hospitality company that plans to build a hotel in the same complex says it is upgrading the brand.
Sulai Hospitality says it plans to build a Home2Suites by Hilton on the former JC Penney site. When the project was first announced, the company said it was going to build a Hampton Inn on the property.
The company says placing a Home2Suite is a larger investment.
“This brand has proven itself to be successful even during the pandemic,” says Mitesh Patel, director of Sulai Hospitality. “Plus, with all the industries in Logansport and the surrounding area, this just feels like a better fit.”
The extended-stay hotel will include studio and one-bedroom suites which include a kitchen and workspace. Sulai plans to break ground this summer.
