GM Fort Wayne Hiring Temporary Workers

(NYSE: GM) plant in Fort Wayne is looking to boost its workforce to keep up with demand. Our partners at WPTA-TV report the plant is hiring more than 200 part-time temporary workers as production of full-size pickup trucks increases.
The temporary workers are set to be hired over the next eight weeks as the plant prepares for employee vacation time, in addition to job changes and illnesses, according to WPTA.
“The demand for the Chevy full sized trucks is really high, and for that we’re running maximum overtime here and a lot of additional week-end work, and so for that we’re going to add some additional people here to help us,” said Jeffrey Morris, human resources site director at the plant.
The jobs come with an hourly wage of $16.67 and a maximum 32-hour work week. Employees will be eligible for some benefits after 90 days and additional benefits after 120 days.
“It’s a great way to be making some really good money, but it is part-time, so you get your 32 hours,” said GM plant spokesperson Stephanie Mack. “It’s really important to keep in mind, you have to be available for any shift, this is a flexible temporary position, so that it gets moved around where the need is.”

Rich LeTrouneau, bargaining chairman for the United Auto Workers Local 2209, tells WPTA the main reason for the hiring spree is because many workers have been infected with COVID-19 or have had to quarantine after being in contact with sick workers.
