The university says the 10,000-square-foot building will serve as an on-campus experiential learning space for students.
The university says the ASEC will serve as “home base” for students pursuing degrees in agribusiness-animal production, animal science, and pre-veterinary medicine. In October, Warsaw-based Lake City Bank made a $100,000 commitment to support the new facility, which is part of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies.
The facility is set to include enclosed and flexible pen space, allowing the university to study different species of farm animals. The building will also feature a 1,400-square-foot classroom with windows overlooking the pens.
The space will serve as a lab experience for students enrolled in animal anatomy and physiology, nutrition of farm animals, and reproduction and breeding courses.
HU says the center will also serve as a space for K-12 schools to learn more about the animal industry and agriculture.
