The campus already includes Franciscan Health Franciscan Point, which provides out-patient services. The site is also home to the University of St. Francis Crown Point campus. The school announced plans last week to double its footprint.
The health system says the site for the new hospital was selected to serve Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties.
Franciscan says the current hospital, Franciscan Health Crown Point, will remain in use, but specific details have not yet been released.
Construction of the new regional medical center is expected to be complete in late 2023.
