Regal Beloit Sets Date for Valpo Plant Closure

Wisconsin-based Regal Beloit Corp. (NYSE: RBC) is officially closing the doors of its helicopter bearing facility in Valparaiso. In a notice to the state, the company says it will permanently close the plant on May 31 of next year, with layoffs of nearly 90 employees beginning in November.

Regal Beloit first announced plans to close the facility in August 2019 after a two-month strike by employees. The workers went on strike over low wages and high out-of-pocket healthcare costs, according to our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The company came to an agreement on the terms of the closing with union representatives two months later. At the time, it was reported the closure would affect up to 170 jobs.

The layoffs are set to begin November 9 and continue in phases until May 31.

Regal Beloit says 62 of the 86 employees affected by the closure are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
