The Pokagon Band does not have a Class 3 gaming compact with the state of Indiana, which is necessary before a sportsbook would be allowed to operate at Four Winds Casino in South Bend.
Indiana’s other 13 casinos offer sports betting.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a law into effect in December, legalizing sports betting in the state.
Four Winds entered into an agreement with Kambi Group plc, a gaming company based in Sweden, to operate the retail sportsbook. The casino also intends to offer online sports betting.
“Following the legalization of sports betting in Michigan, our casino operations team completed an extensive evaluation of potential partners to create the Four Winds Sportsbook. Ultimately, Kambi was recommended, and the partnership was approved by the Pokagon Gaming Commission and Pokagon Gaming Authority,” said Matthew Wesaw, tribal council chairman and chief executive officer of the Pokagon Gaming Authority. “
Customers can place bets at 18 kiosks at Four Winds New Buffalo. They also can use their camera to scan a QR code to reach the website. After they place their bets, they get a new QR code they can take to the sportsbook counter to be scanned to make the bet official.
