Boyd Gaming Co. notified the state that approximately 1,100 workers between its Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City and Belterra Casino and Resort in Switzerland County are at risk of losing their jobs.
The company said permanent layoffs could impact between 25% and 60% of staff at both locations.
“Due to evolving guidance from public health authorities and government agencies, we cannot currently determine exactly how many team members will be laid off,” said the company statement.
Boyd said for those who have not been laid off, the current furlough may last longer than six months from the date it began.
Most casinos around the state closed in mid-March.
Governor Eric Holcomb said he does not expect casinos to reopen before June 14 when the state enters stage four of the phased-in reopening effort.
