The organization says ResearcHERS: Women Fighting Cancer also aims to bolster the careers of female researchers and support a more robust pipeline of women in cancer research leadership roles.
The initiative is being co-chaired by Indiana Destination Development Corp. Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Elaine Bedel and Heather Willey, partner at Indianapolis-based law firm Barnes & Thornburg.
“Like most people, I have been impacted by cancer and believe strongly that research is critical to eradicating the disease,” said Bedel, “But, this initiative is different because it champions women who are leading that work. While I care deeply about cancer, I’m passionate about advancing and championing women leaders.”
The ACS says the initiative will bring together more than 70 women ambassadors from throughout the state in support of women-led cancer research. The ambassadors have a goal of raising at least $2,500 each to help fund research and raise awareness of the initiative.
The organization says it has raised nearly half of its $200,000 goal. You can learn more about the initiative by clicking here.
