The vice president’s office announced he will visit GM’s Components Holdings plant April 30.
GM and Ventec Life Systems are manufacturing 30,000 ventilators at the plant for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for distribution to hospitals. The first batch of ventilators were shipped to Franciscan Health in the south Chicago suburb of Olympia Fields and to Weiss Memorial Hospital on Chicago’s north side late last week.
GM and Ventec announced the partnership March 20 and quickly retooled the auto parts plant for ventilator production. GM is utilizing more than 1,000 workers in the production process.
