Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Carmel-based Becknell Industrial is developing the site in what’s been dubbed as Project X.
Becknell would not reveal the name of the company that will lease the building, citing confidentiality.
“I can tell you it’s an excellent company,” said Paul Thurston, a senior vice president for Becknell Industrial.
The publication says the Hobart City Council give initial approval for a tax abatement Becknell was seeking for the property. A final decision could come April 1.
“We’re trying to get started as early as April 1 with completion by the end of the year,” Thurston said.
Becknell says the project will create 165 construction jobs and 165 jobs once the facility is operational.
The paper says some nearby residents have questioned how the project would affect them and expressed concerns regarding the light and noise the development could create, as well as additional truck traffic.
