Another Illinois Company Moving to Indiana

Alliance Steel says it will invest nearly $20 million to establish its northwest Indiana headquarters and create up to 130 jobs by 2023.
The company says the move will allow it to meet growing customer demand in the automotive, construction, agriculture and transportation industries, among others. Alliance plans to begin renovations in early 2019 and be up and running in January 2020. It’s investing $19.7 million to purchase, equip and staff a 250,000 square-foot facility at 2700 E. 5th Ave. in Gary.
Alliance says it will hiring for several different positions, and will increase workforce training on its new equipment. Chief Executive Officer Andy Gross says he chose northwest Indiana because Gary is "making all the right moves to recreate a very promising industrial area." Gross purchased Alliance Steel in the late 1990s.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered the company up to $2 million in conditional tax credits and training grants based on the job creation plans. The IEDC also offered up to $900,000 in conditional tax credits through the Industrial Recovery Tax Credit program, which provides incentives to companies to redevelop former industrial cites. The city of Gary is also supporting the project.
