(NYSE: ZBH) has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance of its shoulder replacement system. The orthopedics manufacturer says the Identity Shoulder System gives surgeons more options when repairing or reconstructing damaged or debilitated shoulders.
Zimmer Biomet says the technology is a convertible system that aligns with each surgeon’s approach to an individual patient’s unique anatomy.
“The Identity Shoulder System was designed to help surgeons restore center of rotation and achieve optimal range of motion after reverse shoulder replacements, a main goal of these procedures,” said Dr. William Levine, chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University and a member of the development team. “Shoulder specialists will value this system’s adaptability and flexibility to support their unique surgical approaches and complement diverse patient anatomies.”
The company says the system was designed to offer adaptability for potential revision procedures on a patient in the future.
