The Marine Corps veteran has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2011.
Young earned a law degree at Indiana University. He and his wife Jenny live in Bloomington with their four children.
He joins a Republican primary field that already has multiple candidates. Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-3) announced his candidacy in May, vowing to bring a "brand of Hoosier leadership" to Washington. In March, former Indiana Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb said he would run. He also previously served as a top aide for Coats.
Former Indiana Congressman Baron Hill has also announced a run for the seat. In a statement last month, the Democrat said he wants to fight for Americans he believes have been "counted out, and left out" of economic progress.
