Virginia-based media company TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) has entered into an agreement to purchase WTHR-TV in Indianapolis from Dispatch Broadcast Group. The $535 million deal also includes a television and radio station in Ohio.
The Virginia company is also acquiring CBS affiliate WBNS in Columbus, Ohio along with WBNS Radio in central Ohio. TEGNA Chief Executive Officer Dave Lougee calls the stations "an excellent strategic and financial fit with our portfolio of leading big four affiliates and brands in top markets."
The deal marks TEGNA’s second major acquisition this year. In March, the company announced a $740 million deal for 11 television stations in eight markets.
