First and foremost will be crafting a new two-year state budget as Indiana prepares for the potential of an economic downturn.
Indypolitics.org Publisher Abdul-Hakim Shabazz says as lawmakers seek to maintain economic development momentum, they will be focused on issues aimed at bolstering the state’s talent pipeline.
“There are major, big job announcements popping up all over the place, high tech, high skill, high wages, but we don’t necessarily have the workforce to fill those positions,” said Shabazz. “A lot of lawmakers are going to be looking at rethinking (the) K -12 model and also getting the business community a lot more involved with internships and certifications and they also want to rethink higher ed as well.”
He provided perspective on the upcoming session of the General Assembly on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
Healthcare, affordable housing and childcare are also issues expected to general considerable attention and each has a connection to businesses and their ability to attracting and keep talent.
