Among the numerous contributors, Evansville-based Berry Global Group (NYSE: BERY), a manufacturer with more than 50,000 employees worldwide, has been producing plastic for the production of as many as 75,000 face shields weekly for distribution to healthcare workers and first responders, including those at Deaconess and Ascension St. Vincent health systems.
In nearby Princeton, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana is donating materials for face masks and safety glasses.
Winnecke says the region’s philanthropic outreach has also been robust, pointing to the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund, which launched March 27 with $1.5 million in commitments. The mayor says the fund is now approaching $5 million that will benefit nonprofits throughout southwest Indiana.
Mayor Winnecke will talk about efforts to restart the region’s economy, in particular a burgeoning sports tourism sector, on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
