The global health care company cut the ribbon this morning on the distribution facility, which Steven Collis says could ultimately employ up to 150. He says the Boone County location also gives the company easy access to around 100,000 customers that it delivers prescription drugs to every day.
Collis says the company did its research before picking Whitestown. It announced plans for the 320,000 square-foot facility a year ago. He says 30-35 percent of all U.S. prescriptions travel through AmerisourceBergen’s warehouses, so it was important to find a location with "great transportation routes" like those offered by Whitestown.
Last year, the Whitestown Town Council approved a 10-year, $1.27 million personal property tax abatement toward the installation of more than $26 million in equipment in the Whitestown Industrial Park location. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $825,000 in conditional tax credits based on the job creation plans.
Collis says the company has already hired about 100 workers at the location. It is currently hiring for additional distribution positions. AmerisourceBergen employs more than 19,000 associates in more than 50 countries throughout the world. The company, which is ranked 11 on the Fortune 500 list, distributes 1.5 million pharmaceutical product lines to more than 50,000 health care facilities around the world.
