The move aligns with the foundation’s plans to develop the land into the Purdue Research Park as office and research space.
The city council unanimously approved the annexation petition filed by the foundation at its March 4 meeting.
“It is a section that has not been a part of West Lafayette while the rest of the research park is,” said Marianne Mitten Owen, partner at law firm Stuart & Branigin, at the meeting. “Our request to you is to bring this piece into West Lafayette so we can develop the property in connection with the existing requirements.”
The land, which sits between County Road North 100 West and Vicksburg Lane, is currently zoned for agricultural use.
Neither Owen nor Jeremy Slater, Purdue Research Foundation’s vice president of capital projects and facilities, mentioned details of potential projects on the land in their remarks. Inside Indiana Business requested more details, but the foundation had not responded at deadline Thursday.
Through annexing the land, the city will now provide public services like sewer, water, emergency response, street maintenance and trash pick-up. A fiscal plan to assimilate the land was also passed.
The 750-acre Purdue Research Park hosts at least 50 buildings and over 330,000 square feet of business incubation space. The area is home to over 100 tech startups and companies.
