Development partners involved with the revitalization of the 32-acre former General Electric campus say Weigand’s track record and portfolio of recent projects including Parkview Field, Ash Skyline Plaza and Embassy Theatre factored into the selection. Total investment in the mixed-use redevelopment could be in the range of $280 million.
Chief Executive Officer Larry Weigand says "we are incredibly enthused to be selected as Construction Manager for this extensive and exciting project. We look forward to working with the entire team to create a development that pays respect to the property’s past and provides an important foundation for the long-term growth and health of the city’s core and all of Fort Wayne."
Work is expected to begin early next year.
Weigand has also been construction manager on high-profile projects in the city including:
- St. Joseph Hospital expansion and renovation
- Indiana Hotel renovation
- Fort Wayne Newspaper press tower expansion
- Cityscape Flats construction
- Skyline Garage construction
The development partners in the project are Baltimore-based CrossStreet, GreenStreet Limited of Indianapolis and Decatur-based Biggs Development. GreenStreet Limited’s Jeff Kingsbury says "given this project’s local historical significance, we realize the importance of a local firm like Weigand leading its construction. The entire partnership team believes strongly that Weigand Construction is the ideal contractor for this extensive and unique project."
The site has been abandoned for two years and the new owner was identified in February.
