The utilities department says the average residential customer should expect an increase of less than $2 per month.
The new rates will be implemented in two phases with the first increase reflected in the February bills.
The city says the approved rate increase for metered service is the first update in five years. It says the additional revenue will be used to make capital improvements for filtration, emergency power generation and repairs to a wastewater treatment plant.
The City of Bloomington Utilities says is commissioned a study in 2020 to examine residential customer bills. The study showed residential customers were historically paying higher rates than the actual cost of service. The CBU says the new rate structure will “more accurately reflect the cost of service.”
