Warrick County Town Starts $6M Water Project

Crews have gotten to work on a key piece of infrastructure in the Warrick County town of Elberfeld. Town Council member Jeff Valiant says the community has needed the $6.3 million wastewater plant expansion "for many years" to fix overflow problems and increase capacity for local residents, businesses and a nearby industrial park.

The project was funded through sources including $4.7 million combined grant and loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, $1 million from Success Warrick County and $600,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Elberfeld has about 650 residents.

The Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana says, in addition to addressing iodine and overflow issues, the upgrade will increase the plants capacity from 150,000 gallons per day to about 500,000 gallons per day.
