Walmart will hold grand reopening events for seven stores across Indiana on Friday. The retail giant says the upgrades at the Indiana stores are part of $500 million in capital investments it has made at stores across 30 states.

Walmart said the upgrades include optimized grocery departments, a front end transformation with increased numbers of staffed self-checkout lanes, and expanded pharmacies with new private screening rooms for pharmacist consultations.

Additionally, a majority of stores will feature new in-store murals designed and illustrated by local and national artists.

“We invite the community to come see all the upgrades and improvements that were made as we work to better serve our customers whether they shop in-store, online or via mobile,” Walmart Regional General Manager Jessica Villanueva said in a news release. “We’re always listening to our customers and our associates, and we believe the fresh new look and these new innovations will effectively enhance their overall shopping experience.”

The Indiana stores holding grand reopening events are:

  • 9500 E US Highway 36, Avon, IN
  • 2025 Merchant Mile, Columbus, IN
  • 1835 US-231, Crawfordsville, IN
  • 2304 Lincolnway E, Goshen, IN
  • 790 Greensburg Commons Shopping Center, Greensburg, IN
  • 4205 Commerce Drive, Lafayette, IN
  • 1501 E 29th Street, Muncie, IN

Walmart says it has invested nearly $9 billion to upgrade more than 1,400 stores across the country over the past two years.

The grand reopenings come more than a year after Walmart committed to invest more than $75 million to remodel 15 additional stores throughout Indiana.

Earlier this year, Walmart said it would invest $108 million to upgrade its regional distribution center in Seymour. The retailer also opened a 2.2-million-square-foot fulfillment center in McCordsville in June.

Walmart is Indiana’s largest employer with more than 43,000 workers, according to IBJ research.
