The university said it will invest $34 million to build the 70,000-square-foot Center for Health Sciences and Active Learning. The building is planned for where Harrison Hall used to stand.
In addition to classrooms, the new center will have modern clinical simulation labs with high-fidelity manikins, virtual reality simulators and video recording systems. The new center will double the learning space designated for students in the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance center, according to VU.
“The Center for Health Sciences and Active Learning will have a tremendous impact in advancing the academic and career aspirations of the next generation of healthcare professionals as well as students in other disciplines,” Michelle Cummins, dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance, said in a news release. “This new modern center is key to providing a transformative space for VU students and faculty that will allow the University to meet growing enrollment demands in our health science programs and help support Indiana’s healthcare systems.”
The State Budget Committee voted to approve funding for the project at its meeting last week.
A groundbreaking date has not yet been set, but the university anticipates opening the new building by fall 2025.
