The board of trustees approved the extension after an annual performance evaluation of Johnson, whose contract now runs through 2019.
Johnson was appointed president in December after serving in the role on an interim basis following the retirement of former president Dick Helton. Before serving as president, Johnson held the position of provost for three years.
"The Board is in full support of Chuck," said Michael Sievers, first vice chair of the VU Board. "He has done an outstanding job. We had high expectations of him and he has lived up to those and, in many ways, exceeded those expectations. We appreciate everything he has done for VU and look forward to a long-term working relationship with the Board."
Prior to joining VU in 2012, Johnson worked at Purdue University, where he oversaw the MBA, master’s and executive education programs in the Krannert School of Management. He also served on the board of advisors for the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait.
Vincennes also announced the appointment of Richard Walker as associate dean of students for the university. In his new role, Walker will lead of the VU Office of Judicial Affairs and oversee the offices of Multicultural Affairs, Student Activities and International Affairs.
Walker previously served as a lecturer in the Bayh College of Education at Indiana State University.
