Harry Meeks has served as coach since 1991 and athletic director since 2010.
Meeks has amassed a record of 750-283 as coach of the women’s basketball team, which made him the most successful coach in the program’s history.
Vincennes President Chuck Johnson said in a news release that Meeks’ legacy is one of excellence, integrity, and distinction in the classroom and on the court.
“In Harry Meeks, Vincennes University has not just had a coach or an athletic director, but a true leader whose fervent dedication has been the bedrock of the VU Athletics Department,” Johnson said. “His steady hands have guided our athletics programs and shaped the lives of countless VU student-athletes, VU coaches, VU alumni, and the broader university community.”
Meeks was inducted into the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020.
During his tenure as athletic director, Vincennes has produced eight team national championships, including the 2019 Men’s Basketball, 2011 Tennis, 2013, 2016, and 2018 Men’s Golf, and 2010, 2012, and 2014 Bowling teams. The Track and Field program has also produced numerous individual national championships.
VU said it will begin a search for a new athletic director and women’s basketball coach soon. The university is planning a retirement celebration for Meeks, details of which are forthcoming.
