The board has voted to issue a Request for Proposal seeking a facility operator and intends to begin the selection process in early January.
The Capital Improvement Board says it expects to release the RFP within the next week. A selection committee will make a hiring recommendation to the full board.
The board says the operating company would be expected to start booking events in anticipation of the completed construction of the convention center in the third quarter of 2021.
The board says the operator would be heavily involved in post-construction needs including planning, furnishings, kitchen build-out, and equipment.
Despite ground being broken in September, our partners at WTHI-TV report construction has not yet begun on the project. The Vigo County Capital Improvement Board this week approved a purchase agreement for a nearby parking lot, which is the final piece of property needed for construction to begin. The sale is expected to close in January, according to the station.
