The organization says Vaughn, who has served as president since 2014, is leaving to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.
During his tenure, the ISC secured bids to host multiple Big Ten championships, NCAA tournaments and championships, the College Football Playoff National Championship, and the NBA All-Star Game. He also led the ISC’s effort to host the entire NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament in 2021.
“It has been a tremendous honor to serve in this role for the last eight years,” Vaughn said in written remarks. “I’ve been blessed to work with incredible board leaders, an amazing team, and thousands of individuals in the community who care deeply and give freely to support our mission and the impact it has on our city and state. I’m very proud of what we’ve all accomplished together. I will continue to be Indiana Sports Corp’s biggest champion but as the organizations begins to prepare for a very big 2024 and beyond, now is the time to transition leadership to the next President.”
Our partners at the Indianapolis Business Journal report there has been speculation that Vaughn may run for mayor of Indianapolis. Vaughn served as chief of staff for former Mayor Greg Ballard from 2012-2014.
“I’m not prepared to go into detail on my private sector role,” Vaughn told the IBJ in a text Tuesday morning. “I’ll reach out when I’m in a good spot. I do not intend to run for office.”
ISC Board Chairman Rick Fuson, chief executive officer of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, has formed a search committee to find Vaughn’s successor.
“The continued success of Indianapolis as North America’s best city for big events is easy to take for granted, but it is the vision and talent of people like Ryan Vaughn that have kept us in the lead,” Fuson said. “I am immensely grateful to Ryan for his leadership, and while he leaves remarkably big shoes to fill, he also leaves Indiana Sports Corp as poised as ever to continue this incredibly important work.”
The ISC says after July 1, Vaughn will move to a consulting role to assist with the transition through the organization’s annual board meeting on September 14.
