Officials announced this week that the Fort Wayne-based university will add men’s and women’s bowling to its athletics offerings in the 2024-25 year.
Jeff Brown, a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and the Fort Wayne Metro USBC, will be the program’s first head coach.
The USF team will compete in the NAIA and Crossroads League. Competition is expected to begin next fall.
“We have seen the growth of collegiate bowling, especially here in the Midwest and Crossroads League, so the timing made sense for the Cougars to jump in and start to compete,” Athletic Director Mike McCaffrey said in a news release. “Jeff Brown is an experienced bowler and has tremendous connections to the northeast Indiana bowling community.”
Brown previously coached at Mt. Juliet High School near Nashville, Tennessee, leading the team to three Top 5 state tournament placements between 2004 and 2007.
“I am grateful to Mr. McCaffrey and the University of Saint Francis for this exciting opportunity to build a championship bowling program at USF,” Brown said. “We will work hard and uphold the Franciscan values, serve the school community and foster bowlers who have the skills and character needed in work, life and bowling.”
