University Shifts Campus From California to Indy

A private, Christian university has relocated it headquarters from San Diego to Indianapolis. Horizon University is now based at the Horizon Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis campus on the northeast corner of Marion County. Officials say the move will help attract more on-campus and online students. Bill Goodrich is Horizon University president and has served as senior pastor of the church in the Geist area since it opened in the late-1980s.

He says the Indianapolis campus location "allows us to help educate a child from just a few years old, through our high school, and then allows both graduates, as well as other adults to earn an accredited degree, all right here on our campus." The college adds to the K-12 private school already located at the Horizon Christian Fellowship campus.

Horizon University currently offers multiple certificates and three bachelor’s degree programs: organizational leadership, biblical studies and leadership in ministry. Goodrich says the millions of unfinished degrees in the U.S. and low percentage of adults enrolled in college suggest it’s time for a different approach in education. "The goal of Horizon U," he says, "is to help train students not just for that one thing, but rather for whatever life has in store."

Horizon University was launched in 1993 as Horizon Bible Institute in San Diego. It later became Horizon College San Diego, and in 2013, received accreditation from the Association of Biblical Higher Education and it was renamed Horizon University.
