The university’s campus will be in the direct path of the eclipse and the sky will go dark for over three minutes at 2:02 p.m. The university said it has 1,400 acres of unobstructed sky views.
The event’s first day starts at 7 p.m. on April 7 featuring a talk with electrical engineer and retired NASA astronaut Joan Higginbotham. The next day will feature experimental learning, expert presentations and other opportunities.
“Our campus will provide space for science and celestial enthusiasts, along with casual observers, to spread out and enjoy this historic event in a festival atmosphere,” said Dr. Kent Scheller, USI Professor of Physics, in a press release. “For the second time in seven years, our campus will be at the center of one of the most unique and awe-inspiring events we’ll ever experience.”
