In a WARN notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Monroe-based Strick Trailers LLC said the move could affect 160 workers.
While the notice was filed with the state, a spokesperson for Strick said in an email to Inside INdiana Business that the company hopes to avoid a layoff.
Becky Burns, director of human resources for Strick, said the notice was filed “just in case” to provide 60-day’s notice of a potential mass layoff as required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
“Business is slowing down, but we are continuing to seek additional prospects,” Burns told IIB. “And in this business, tomorrow we could need 25 team members.”
The positions that would be affected if a layoff were to occur include welders, cutters, solderers, brazers, assemblers and fabricators, maintenance workers, and first-line supervisors of production and operating workers, according to the notice.
Founded in the 1930s, Strick Trailers manufactures a variety of custom trailers and commercial truck equipment. Strick also has has sister companies, Cheetah Chassis Corp. in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and John Evans Manufacturing Co. in Sumter, South Carolina.
