The Daily Reporter in Greenfield reports plans for the project were presented to the McCordsville Town Council this week and received praise from council members and residents.
The town center would be located on more than 100 acres near Mount Comfort Road and State Road 67, according to the publication. The mixed-use development would include commercial, residential and community space and could come to fruition over the next 20-30 years.
Plans for the town center were developed by Fortville-based Context Design, in conjunction with a steering committee. The Reporter says the project is currently estimated to cost $215 million, with $42 million coming from public investment.
“We need to have something in place to give our vision and I think that any project that comes forward is going to have to be decided at that time, just like any other development in the town,” McCordsville Town Councilor Tom Strayer told the publication. “We don’t have to make those decisions, and we can’t make those decisions upfront.”
The council did not vote on the proposal due to the absence of town council president Barry Wood. Town Manager Tonya Galbraith told the publication officials wanted to hold off on voting until all council members were present.
