Tippecanoe County Reports Record Tourism

Tippecanoe County says 2015 was a record year for tourism, with visitors spending more than $350 million, an 11 percent increase over the previous year.
The economic impact report from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development suggests travel, tourism and hospitality supports nearly 7,300 jobs in Tippecanoe County, making it the fifth-largest industry in the county.
Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette President Jo Wade says it’s important for the community "to know where visitors are spending their dollars and how many jobs tourism in Tippecanoe County creates," adding, "Every Tippecanoe County household saved an average of $622 in 2015 because of the presence of tourism in Indiana."
On Wednesday, the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention & Tourism Bureau reported tourism spending jumped more than 15 percent in that region in 2015 compared to the previous year, with visitors spending more than $300 million.
