The city saw over 1,700 applicants through the MakeMyMove program, with 24 deciding to make the move. The 12 households who have completed their moves have resulted in a $1,029,218 annual economic impact.
“That economic impact comes from just twelve new households,” Mayor Duke Bennett said in a news release. “We have realized more than $1 million in economic growth from the first year of this effort. It’s been a huge success because the people who’ve joined our community are wonderful people who are already great friends and neighbors.”
Indianapolis-based MakeMyMove is a growing changemaker in Indiana communities. The business is a marketplace where local leaders can build offers to persuade families to pick up and move to their town or city. Many say this is part of a solution to boost the local economy, enhance the workforce with talent and build up smaller communities.
The program focuses on moving remote workers from out-of-state. Area build packages with memberships, assistance and cash to incentivize people to move.
Terre Haute’s new residents are from nine different states with an average household salary of $88,417 a year.
Using an Indiana University Public Policy Institute model, MakeMyMove estimates the first 12 households $970,076 in new annual consumer spending, $59,142 in state and local tax revenue and around six new jobs created due to increased consumer spending.
