Lynn Hughes, who accepted the position nine years ago, led efforts to relocate the museum to its current home and most recently lined up funding for an indoor ropes challenge course. Jamie McDowell has been named interim executive director.
Hughes says she made the "difficult decision" to leave the museum in order to take a position as director of development for Hamilton Center Inc.
During her nine-year tenure, Hughes oversaw the relocation of the museum, which was completed in less than one year. The museum says she also helped raise funding for for scholarships, programs and exhibits; most recently helping to bring an indoor ropes challenge course to the facility. She also spearheaded a partnership with the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to allow families on certain assistance programs to gain admission for $2 per person.
Board President John Newport says the museum will conduct a search for a new executive director over the next few months.
