Our partners at WTWO-TV report the organization continues to fundraise for the project.
CEO Bobby Moore said the goal is provide a boost for the children that participate in the club’s programming.
“[We’re] making the space more conducive for our young people to participate, making the areas a lot safer, and renovating carpets and walls so that it is color coordinated,” Moore told WTWO. “We are upgrading the technology and things like that, so it helps our kids as far as mentoring and educational purposes.”
Moore said he wants to ensure that there is a place like the Boys and Girls Club always available for youth in the community.
“Kids can have a safe place that they call home, feel comfortable, and be able to talk to our staff members as well, while also having all the proper protocols in place so that when kids are coming into our building that they are safe,” he said.
More said the project is part of a Lilly Endowment Inc. grant the organization received, and they are also working on obtaining more grant funding.
The not-for-profit will host a Derby Day fundraising event at the Vigo County Fairgrounds on May 4. All proceeds raised from the event will go toward the renovation project.
A timeline for the project’s completion was not provided.
