The honor is given to individuals "who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of America’s youth."
The organization cites Roddick’s efforts both during and after his tennis career with the Texas-based Andy Roddick Foundation. The nonprofit, which Roddick established when he was 18 years old, creates programs for underserved kids covering areas such as literacy, STEM, arts, and sports.
"Andy’s accomplishments on the court have been well recognized, but his philanthropic work is to be admired," Ryan Vaughn, president of Indiana Sports Corp, said in a news release. "A pillar of our mission is to enrich and enhance youth development through sport and this award underscores the impact of advocacy from our organization and our esteemed recipient."
Roddick will receive the award November 13 at a luncheon in downtown Indianapolis. He will join a long list of prominent names to receive the honor, including Tony Dungy, Condoleezza Rice, Larry Bird, Mitch Daniels, Peyton Manning, and Dick Vitale, among many others.
