TechPoint, the state’s nonprofit growth accelerator for Indiana’s tech industry, is accepting applications for what is often referred to as the “Oscars” of tech in Indiana. The program celebrates the achievement, discovery and innovation in technology.
In an interview on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, 2021 Mira award winner Yaw Aning explained what impact the program had on his company, Malomo.
“I think it really solidified us as a breakout tech company with an exciting company culture. And it also helped us from a hiring perspective. We saw a lot of applications from prospective candidates for open positions, which helped us really hire some key team members,” said Aning.
Aning won both Rising Entrepreneur and Startup of the Year honors at the 2021 TechPoint Mira Awards.
Malomo’s platform helps companies turn shipment tracking notifications into marketing and revenue opportunities. It launched in 2019.
“We work with ecommerce merchants. As many people know ecommerce is growing tremendously fast. We saw our team double in size and our customer count tripled in size this year,” said Aning.
The in-person awards ceremony was on hiatus for the past two years because of the pandemic. But current plans call for the ceremony to be held in-person in April.
Last year, the program had a record-breaking 211 total applications. A judging panel pared the list to 122 companies, universities and individuals as nominees. Eventually, 16 winners were named.
TechPoint President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Langellier reflects on the growing interest in the awards program.
“We saw more regions and companies and people from all across the states. We saw more individuals from underrepresented groups all across the state as well,” said Langellier during his appearance on Inside INdiana Business. “It was a really positive sign from last year. And as you said the quantity continues to increase, too, which is a good sign for both innovation and for tech company growth.”
