High school robotics teams from throughout the state will participate in the Indiana State Championship High School Robotics Competition, which kicks off Friday in Kokomo. The best-performing teams will advance to the World Championship, which will take place later this month in Detroit, Michigan.

The event will feature industrial-size robots built and programmed by the teams competing in a difficult field game against other teams, according to the FIRST Robotics Competition website. In addition to the games, the teams will also be judged for awards, which will count toward the teams’ standings and their ability to quality for the World Championship.

IndianaFIRST Inc. says the suPURDUEper Robotics team from Purdue Polytechnic High School in Indianapolis is currently at the top of the rankings, followed by the TechHOUNDS from Carmel High School and Cyber Blue from Perry Meridian High School in Indy. 

The team standings at the end of the State Championship will determine which teams qualify for the World Championship. The standings heading into this weekend’s event are as follows, listed by team name, school, and city.
