Now that it’s open, the new building will be home to Taylor’s Film and Media Arts program, as well as the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The facility features new sound stages, editing suites, viewing auditoriums and classrooms.
The 45,000-square-foot academic and media center is part of Taylor’s larger Campus Master Plan, which outlines $100 million in capital spending projects to boost student life and enrollment. The Horne Academic Center makes up around $25 million of that total, the university said.
The Horne Center has a domed entrance, which pays homage to a student union that formerly sat on the site. Fort Wayne-based Design Collaborative worked on plans for the project, and senior project manager Quinn O’Heeney said the firm is proud to bring new ideas to Taylor’s campus.
“The Horne Academic Center is a testament to Taylor’s commitment to educating and training future film and television professionals,” said O’Heeney in a release. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the university to bring this vision of academic excellence to life.”
Other projects part of Taylor’s master campus plan include renovating the Nussbaun Science Center and the Hodson Dining Commons.
