Chief Executive Magazine said Wednesday that the Hoosier State is also ranked No. 6 for business overall in its 2024 list.
Indiana maintained its position on the ranking from last year.
The CEOs were asked to rate states based on their opinion on how easy it was to do business in that state versus others. The publication attributed the state’s ranking to favorable tax conditions, solid infrastructure and favorable quality of life.
“This ranking is a testament to Indiana’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that encourages growth and innovation,” Publisher Chris Chalk said in a news release. “From its skilled workforce to its strategic location and pro-business policies, Indiana offers everything businesses need to succeed.”
The ranking follows a record year for economic development in Indiana in 2023, which saw $28.7 billion in new capital expenditures. Among those commitments was Louisville-based Conco, which in August announced plans to invest $54.5 million in operations at the former Tokusen USA facility in Scottsburg and create up to 175 jobs.
“When looking at locations, the former Tokusen USA space was a perfect fit for what we needed to expand,” Karen Paschal, CEO of Conco told Chief Executive. “We look forward to working with the State of Indiana, the City of Scottsburg, and its residents to create additional growth for the region.”
The top five states on this year’s ranking are Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, and North Carolina. The bottom five states are Washington, New Jersey, Illinois, New York, and California.
