The move comes after the steel distributor announced plans to transfer some operations from Louisville to Jeffersonville.
Mill Steel acquired the Anderson plant earlier this year. It hopes to complete the move of the building/painted products unit by the end of April. The company says the move provides a "tremendous opportunity" to grow distribution capabilities while helping Anderson retain skilled labor and grow the local work force.
The flat-rolled carbon steel distributor previously announced that it would consolidate its steel framing and accessory operations from Louisville to its Ports of Indiana – Jeffersonville location. That operation serves Mill Steel’s automotive, appliance, transportation, construction and tubing customers.
Mill Steel Chief Executive Officer David Samrick says the efficiencies created by the recent moves are a "game changer" for all of the company’s business segments. The company also has operations in Grand Rapids, Melvindale, Michigan and Birmingham, Alabama.
