Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana Department of Transportation officials met at the Eagles Theatre in Wabash to recognize those receiving portions of the state’s $91.5 million Community Crossings matching grants.
The program, which funds local road and bridge projects, has provided nearly $1.5 billion to Hoosier communities since its start in 2016. It comes as a part of Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program.
Nearly 190 communities received grants in the Community Crossings program’s fall 2023 round of funding.
“Community Crossings continues to provide opportunities for Indiana local communities, large and small, to make connectivity and safety road improvements for Hoosier families and our visitors,” Holcomb said in an INDOT news release. “The importance of this matching grant program is immediately obvious as we take our award-winning statewide infrastructure network to the next level.”
Long-term funding for the grant program was approved by Indiana lawmakers in 2017. The state will begin taking applications for the next round of funding in January.
“It’s encouraging to see continued dedication and commitment to transportation infrastructure at the local level,” INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith said. “Seeing the completed projects from this program is a reward in itself and a win for the state.”
