State Names Teacher of The Year Finalists

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Education has announced 10 finalists for the 2017 Indiana Teacher of the Year award. The winner will be named in October and will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year program.
The Indiana Teacher of the Year program has been around for more than 50 years. Finalists are selected through a statewide application process. One educator can be nominated each year per school corporation.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says "everywhere I go, I see great teaching and learning happening in Hoosier classrooms. Great teachers can have a lifelong impact on a child’s life. I am honored to recognize ten of these outstanding educators today who have demonstrated their commitment to high-quality instruction and service to Hoosier students. I congratulate each of them on their accomplishment."
This year’s class of finalists are:
- Michelle Burress – Plainfield High School
- Bobbi Jo Carter – Frankfort High School
- John Gensic – Penn High School
- Dennis Goins – Ben Davis High School and Area 31 Career Center
- Jarod Hammel – Huntington North High School
- Chris Hill – Avon High School
- Mikayla Koharchik – Zionsville Middle School
- Jessica Deckard Mann – Mishawaka High School
- Jitka Nelson – Logansport Community High School
- Jennifer Jo Steed – Brownsburg High School
