Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the organization is hoping to raise enough money to break ground on the project in August.
The project, which will add 80,000 square-feet to the facility, will include a six-lane pool, two gymnasiums, a gymnastics center, and a family game room. It will also feature a licensed early learning center for children, as well as education-focused drop-in childcare while parents are using the facility.
The YMCA has already received a $21 million gift from the Dean and Barbara White family and another $3.5 million from donors, according to the publication. The organization is the midst of a campaign to raise an additional $3.5 million, while the remaining $7 million will be financed.
The Times reports the project is the second-largest in the city over the past decade. The community phase of the fundraising campaign will begin in May. If the organization can break ground in August, construction is expected to be complete by December 2018.
