Based in its South Bend office, he focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, internal investigations, and white collar criminal defense. Barrett represents companies and individuals at all stages of investigation, litigation and appeal, as well as in mediation and arbitration. He has tried jury cases in a variety of courts and has experience in all areas of litigation.
Barrett previously practiced at national law firms in Indiana and Washington, D.C., and most recently as an assistant United States attorney in the Northern District of Indiana. During his 13 years as a federal prosecutor, he led investigations into a wide variety of cases, including commercial fraud, data breaches, tax violations, insurance fraud, identity theft, mail and wire fraud, and public corruption.
His legal career includes a clerkship on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Barrett earned his juris doctor, magna cum laude, from the Notre Dame Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Notre Dame Law Review. He also earned his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame. In addition to practicing law, Barrett serves as an adjunct professor at the Notre Dame Law School, where he teaches trial skills and criminal law. He coaches high school mock trial, and his teams have reached the Indiana state finals.
