The initiative was designed to create safer and more efficient transportation through new curbs, sidewalks, street lights and landscaping.
The city says the goal of the project was to benefit motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and transit riders. Some of the work included converting one-way streets into two-way streets, widened sidewalks, and streetscape improvements.
The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with Buttigieg and others providing remarks, followed by a brief bike ride around downtown South Bend. You can learn more about the Smart Streets project by clicking here.
