The segregated public swimming pool denied entry to African Americans for nearly 30 years, but through a unique partnership became the home of the Civil Rights Heritage Center.
The partnership between the city of South Bend, IU South Bend and the South Bend Heritage Foundation has led to the active learning community center, which sees more than 5,000 visitors per year. The landmark designation means the building is protected, and will be kept as close to original as possible. More information on the center can be found here.
